MWC Barcelona: GSMA's David Pollington on Intelligent Connectivity, Biometrics, and Augmented Reality [Audio]

Mobile ID World is reporting live from Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this week, straight from the nexus of biometrics, identity technology and mobility. On day one of the world’s biggest mobility event, Mobile ID World’s Director of Digital Content, Susan Stover, spoke with David Pollington, Head of Applications and Services, GSMA, about what to expect at this year’s show.

The conversation starts with a rundown of MWC 2019’s main theme, Intelligent Connectivity, and how it encapsulates innovations in 5G, Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence and more. The interview quickly turns to the topic of biometrics, which have seen steady growth at MWC and are now present from the front door to the exhibition floor – not only are biometrics being demonstrated all over the exhibition, but a facial recognition system called BREEZ is providing convenient and secure access control at this year’s event.

Pollington proceeds to give an update on the status of GSMA’s Mobile Connect initiative, and finally gives a preview of his favorite 5G application at MWC 2019: connected Augmented Reality technology.
