The Navigo Pass, a staple for Parisian public transport, can now be added to iPhones and Apple Watches.
The long-awaited update marks a significant shift in how residents and visitors navigate the city’s transport system, aligning just in time for the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris. The digital Navigo pass was previously available only on Android.
With this update, users can add their Navigo pass directly to the Apple Wallet app, though they will need to update their iPhones to iOS 17.5 and download the Île-de-France Mobilités app in order to access the feature.
Apple’s decision to introduce the digital Navigo pass comes ahead of the 2024 summer Olympics, in which millions of tourists are expected to flock to the French capitol. It should help to facilitate seamless support for public transportation on iPhones and Apple Watches, and can be seen as a strategic move to accommodate the influx of visitors.
Within Apple Wallet, users can purchase and store various types of tickets, including standard and reduced fare T+ tickets, T+ ticket books (10 tickets), day passes, and tickets for OrlyBus and RoissyBus. However, weekly and monthly passes, as well as special passes for youth or anti-pollution, must be bought through the Île-de-France Mobilités app.
