NEC will be looking to generate new 5G business opportunities when it heads to February’s MWC event in Barcelona. The company will be showcasing a slew of new products and services based on 5G technology, all of which is part of a broader Smart Connectivity theme.
The offerings are part of a comprehensive 5G ecosystem designed for both the public and the private sector. NEC did not share too many specifics, but indicated that its solutions will facilitate digital transformation and encourage information sharing. Its support services will similarly help organizations manage and monetize their assets more efficiently.
NEC also placed a strong emphasis on its smart city portfolio. The company is hoping to improve public spaces through optical fiber sensing and the delivery of personal data services and other new AI technologies. According to NEC, its solutions will feature key components like OPEN vRAN tech and will provide customers with robust security capabilities.
The news demonstrates that NEC is hoping to remain at the forefront of the 5G conversation. The company outfitted NTT DOCOMO with 5G radio units back in July, and formed a joint 5G sales team in collaboration with Samsung. Before that, NEC trialed 8K streaming and facial recognition over a 5G network through its partnership with NTT DOCOMO.
MWC Barcelona runs from February 24-27. NEC’s wares will be on display at booth #3M30 in Hall 3 at Fira Gran Via.
