Northeast Mississippi Community College (NEMCC) has implemented Transact technology to modernize its ID and door access solutions, marking a significant upgrade to the institution’s identity management infrastructure. The implementation follows a broader trend of educational institutions adopting mobile student ID solutions to enhance campus security and improve student services.
The implementation coincides with notable developments in the identity management sector, including ColorID’s acquisition of CardExchange. ColorID, an established provider of identity and credential management solutions, plans to expand its integrated identity management offerings through this strategic acquisition. The move matches industry predictions outlined in a recent HID report highlighting the growing importance of mobile credentials and biometrics in security transformations.
“Universities should maintain ownership and control of their identity ecosystems,” said Danny Smith, co-founder and co-owner of ColorID, during a Campus ID News Chats episode, emphasizing the importance of institutional autonomy in identity management.
CardExchange’s cloud platform, developed over the past four to five years, enables institutions to manage various credential types including physical, mobile, and biometric. The platform’s capabilities have been demonstrated at New York University, where it successfully unified credentialing operations across 14 global campuses. The comprehensive approach to credential management reflects the industry’s shift toward integrated digital identity solutions, similar to recent developments in government-issued credentials where mobile IDs are becoming increasingly prevalent.
The technology allows for integration with multiple third-party applications and access control systems, providing institutions with an agnostic integration platform. The approach enables universities to centralize identity management while maintaining the flexibility to modify or expand their systems without vendor constraints. The platform’s versatility is particularly relevant as educational institutions increasingly seek solutions that can accommodate both traditional physical credentials and emerging digital identity technologies.
NEMCC’s implementation of Transact technology matches current industry trends toward integrated, cloud-based identity management systems. The initiative aims to enhance the institution’s control over its identity systems while providing more streamlined and flexible management solutions. The modernization effort reflects the growing recognition among educational institutions that robust identity management infrastructure is essential for campus security and operational efficiency.
