NES Brings NeoFace to Vuzix Smart Glasses

January 5, 2022

NEC Solution Innovators Ltd. (NES) will be using Vuzix’s M400 Smart Glasses to bring its NeoFace KAOATO Facial Recognition System to large scale facilities. NES is a subsidiary of the larger NEC Corporation, and primarily markets the KAOATO system to buildings that are open to the public, such as schools, hospitals, and commercial facilities like supermarkets and department stores.

The partnership with Vuzix will make it easier for venue operators to monitor areas that are not visible with a mounted video camera. The M400 Glasses come equipped with a 4K HD camera with facial recognition capabilities. The platform can carry out matches in real time, and provides operators with a better ground-level view of the building and its visitors. The NeoFace KAOATO system takes advantage of NEC’s top-rated NeoFace facial recognition algorithm.

“We are pleased to be specified as the smart glasses solution within such a comprehensive identification system by a recognized leader in the space,” said Vuzix President and CEO Paul Travers. “Vuzix M400 Smart Glasses provides studio quality picture and video capture with auto-focus and image stabilization, making it an ideal device for facial recognition applications. We look forward to working with NES and supporting the successful deployment of its NeoFace KAOATO Facial Recognition System.”

NES primarily acts as a systems integrator in Japan, which means that the new deal should raise Vuzix’s profile in the Japanese market. KDDI Research and Zenkokai are already using Vuzix glasses to improve the quality of care for patients at nursing homes in Tokyo, where facial recognition can provide staff with more accurate medical information about each patient.

Austria’s Barcotec GmbH also agreed to serve as Vuzix’s European distribution partner in December. The company’s M-Series of smart glasses now offer voice support for 30 languages thanks to a recent arrangement with Vivoka.
