MSI is best known for gaming computers, but is now targeting content creators with its new Modern 14 and Prestige 15 laptops. Both machines come with Intel cores and NVIDIA graphics cards, though the Prestige 15 is the slightly larger and more powerful of the two, with a six-core instead of a quad-core processor and roughly twice the memory (16 GB to 8 GB) and hard drive (1 TB to 512 GB).
The Modern 14, on the other hand, does include a fingerprint reader, which is becoming an increasingly popular security feature for laptops and PCs. Major players like Microsoft and Google have teased fingerprint integrations through patents and code leaks, while Apple has continued to feature Touch ID in the latest Macbooks. The technology has also appeared in laptops from Lenovo and Dell, amongst several others.
Like those models, the Modern 14 scanner will presumably allow for biometric authentication for those using the device. The trending appearance of the tech in yet another laptop would seem to indicate that the feature is popular with both manufacturers and consumers. However, it is worth noting that the Prestige 15 does not have a fingerprint scanner of its own, so the feature is not yet a universal standard.
