New Xiaomi Phones Feature Goodix’s In-Display Fingerprint Sensor Tech

New Xiaomi Phones Feature Goodix's In-Display Fingerprint Sensor Tech

Goodix’s in-display fingerprint sensor technology is being used in two new smartphones from Xiaomi.

The Mi Mix Alpha is the more flashy of the two. It has a limited production run, and a price tag of about $2,800, making it something of a luxury item. But it stands out with a screen that wraps around both faces of the device, broken up by one vertical black strip housing the camera and other sensors on the back.

It runs on a Snapdragon 855+ processor, features a 4,050 mAh battery, and supports 40W wireless charging and 5G connectivity. And, like the recently launched Nubia Z20, it lacks a front-facing camera, since users can just use the rear screen to angle the rear-facing camera when taking selfies.

Xiaomi’s other big new smartphone is the Mi 9 Pro 5G, an iterative update on the Mi 9 smartphone from earlier this year. This device also sports a Snapdragon 855+ chip, with wireless charging (at 30W) and 5G support, as the name would suggest. And it’s price is, predictably, a low lower, starting at about $520.

So far, there hasn’t been a great deal of buzz around the new smartphones’ in-display fingerprint scanning technology, suggesting that this may increasingly be seen as a kind of standard feature on premium smartphones (even if it isn’t anywhere to be found in Apple’s product lineup). Goodix says that these integrations bring the total number of smartphone models featuring its in-display fingerprint sensor technology to 74, making it a leading supplier of this increasingly popular tech.
