NEXT Biometrics has received a follow-up order of its FAP 20 fingerprint sensors from Newland Payment Technology, the company has announced.
The company had first teamed up with Newland in the first half of 2019, announcing that it would provide the latter with sensors to be used in POS terminals. That was followed by Newland’s first commercial order of NEXT sensors in early 2020. Newland is based in China, but in announcing the second shipment, NEXT Biometrics indicated that the biometric payment terminals would be sent to an undisclosed national bank in a different country.
Now, NEXT says it has received a new order for an additional 6,000 FAP 20 fingerprint sensors. The company has revealed that Newland’s national bank customer is located in Africa, and says that the sensors are now in transit for use in biometric POS terminals that will ultimately be used by that bank.
“We are pleased that our collaboration with Newland Payment Technology has resulted in additional business with a financial institution in Africa,” said NEXT Biometrics CEO Peter Heuman. “This order demonstrates that our FAP 20 sensors are well recognized by both our business partners and payment authorities and is a proof point of our strategy to grow with high-quality partners.”
The news helps to further illustrate the diversity of NEXT Biometrics’ ongoing business activities as a major fingerprint sensor provider. While the company has been active in the emerging biometric payment cards space, it has also seen recent deals in the area of biometric ID, and in biometric reader integrations.
