Nok Nok Labs Brings Biometric Authentication to SoftBank Customers

January 8, 2019

“We can no longer rely on passwords for our financial or other sensitive transactions as they are weak, forgotten and easily hacked. We are very pleased with SoftBank’s decision to choose our standards-based authentication platform for their millions of customers.” – Phillip Dunkelberger, CEO, Nok Nok Labs

Nok Nok Labs Brings Biometric Authentication to SoftBank Customers

Nok Nok Labs has brought strong biometric authentication to customers of SoftBank Corp., one of Japan’s major telecoms.

The biometric security, based on the Nok Nok S3 Authentication Suite, has been delivered via the My SoftBank Plus mobile app. For users of both Android and iOS devices, the app can now leverage their built-in biometric sensors for user login.

The integration could have a significant impact on the security of many users, with Nok Nok Labs asserting in a press release that SoftBank has more than 10 million mobile subscribers.

Commenting on the development, Nok Nok Labs CEO Phillip Dunkelberger emphasized the superiority of biometric authentication over traditional security mechanisms. “We can no longer rely on passwords for our financial or other sensitive transactions as they are weak, forgotten and easily hacked,” he said. “We are very pleased with SoftBank’s decision to choose our standards-based authentication platform for their millions of customers.”

The development comes after Nok Nok Labs attained FIDO2 certification for its S3 Authentication Suite last September, a development attesting to its security and capacity to protect privacy for users.
