NTT Digital, Inc. has announced its membership in the OpenWallet Foundation (OWF), effective June 1, 2024. This makes NTT Digital the first Japanese private company to join the global alliance organized by Linux Foundation Europe.
Established in February of 2023, the OpenWallet Foundationis an open-source initiative whose primary goal is to develop secure and interoperable multi-purpose digital wallets that can function seamlessly across various devices, operating systems, applications, services, and currencies. By fostering collaboration and open-source efforts, OWF aims to create digital wallets that are universally accessible, enhancing their utility and security for a wide range of users.
OWF’s efforts also include the formation of the OpenWallet Forum, hosted by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), to support multi-stakeholder cooperation and further the development of interoperable digital wallet solutions globally.
The foundation includes prominent members such as Accenture, Futurewei, Gen Digital, Google, and Visa. By joining OWF, NTT Digital aims to enhance the international interoperability of its own digital wallet services, with an eye to global business expansion. The collaboration is expected to help NTT Digital to provide more secure and reliable services to customers worldwide.
