Oberthur Technologies (OT) has attained four important new certifications for its PEARL by OT embedded secure element (eSE), the company has announced.
The CIPURSE V2 certification from OSPT Alliance approves the eSE solution for use in urban transport systems embracing the standard. That could present some interesting market opportunities, but it’s the new certifications from Visa, Mastercard, and Amex that open the door to the fast-growing mobile payments market. The VISA VMPA v1.4, Mastercard MCM v1.1, and AMEX v2.0 credentials certify that PEARL is compliant with the biometric security standards of these major credit card companies.
Given that biometric authentication is already used in the most prominent mPayment platforms, and is increasingly taking center stage in their security systems, these certifications should help to make OT’s eSE solution highly appealing to OEMs eager to take advantage of the growing mPayments market. And PEARL already has considerable momentum: Launched only this past January, OT says it has already been used in numerous flagship smartphones.
Commenting on the new certifications in a statement, OT executive Marek Juda said they confirm PEARL’s “advanced security level” and OT’s ability to offer “innovative products matching the stringent requirements of worldwide payment schemes and transport operators required to deploy user-friendly NFC services.”
