Pertama Digital Bhd has won a contract to provide the onboarding system for Malaysia’s planned digital ID platform, MyDigital ID. The contract was awarded to the company’s subsidiary, Dapat Vista (M) Sdn Bhd, by My Digital ID Sdn Bhd.
Malaysia’s planned digital ID system is meant to offer citizens streamlined access to government services and other digital platforms. Previous media reports had indicated that it was slated to launch in July of this year, but that timeline now appears out of reach: According to The Malaysian Reserve, Dapat Vista’s contract has a duration of four months, with the option to extend it for an additional three months.
The report offers no details on how Dapat Vista’s onboarding system will operate, but it’s worth noting that the company has experience in developing digital infrastructure and mobile apps including eJamin, an electronic bail payment system that uses biometric authentication. It is also known for having developed “mySMS 15888”, a platform meant to facilitate government and utility services via SMS.
The planned MyDigital ID will link to an end user’s “myKad” identification card upon enrolment, which will also entail a fingerprint scan on the user’s smartphone. The Malaysian government has previously emphasized that the digital ID will not store any sensitive personal information; instead, it generates a digital ID token that is stored on the end user’s device.
The value of Pertama Digital’s contract for development of the app’s registration system has not been disclosed.
