“Among the more specific topics to be addressed in the INTERPOL workshop will be the mechanical and digital printing techniques used to produce – and spoof – official identity documents, new security mechanisms, and 2D vs. 3D document checks.”
Onfido is getting a high-profile opportunity to showcase its identification expertise. The company has announced that it’s going to deliver a three-day training course on the detection of fraudulent identity documents in partnership with INTERPOL.
The course will run from March 12th to 14th in Manila, with attendees to include law enforcement and border control officials from Cambodia, Laos, the Philippines, and Vietnam. It will be conducted by an Onfido team led by Michale Van Gestel, a former immigration identification expert for the Dutch government.
While Onfido’s selfie-based authentication technology has enabled the company to gain strong traction in the commercial market, with numerous recent clients in the sharing economy in particular, its biometric and document reading systems are built upon a foundation of expertise that also translates into serious government applications. Among the more specific topics to be addressed in the INTERPOL workshop will be the mechanical and digital printing techniques used to produce – and spoof – official identity documents, new security mechanisms, and 2D vs. 3D document checks.
Commenting in a statement announcing the training course, Van Gestel emphasized the combined expertise of Onfido and INTERPOL, and the compelling need for such expertise in today’s security landscape. “As criminals get more sophisticated in designing new attack vectors, there has never been a more important time to unify our knowledge of both 3D and 2D document authentication and share this in a unique training course,” he said.
