TECH5 is trying to become a more active member of the international identity community. To that end, the company will work to advance identity policy as the newest member of the Open Identity Exchange (OIX).
As a member of the OIX, TECH5 is hoping to collaborate with like-minded organizations to find ways to use biometric technologies to raise inclusion in various financial, government, and other programs. TECH5 is best known for its portfolio of biometric identity solutions, which supports applications ranging from health checks to national identity. The company also offers multiple biometric modalities with face, fingerprint, and iris recognition algorithms.
The OIX, meanwhile, currently has more than 60 member organizations across the identity spectrum. The full roster includes private technology vendors, scheme operators, and identity providers in addition to government agencies.
“TECH5’s inclusive technologies and vision to ensure everyone has control of their own digital ID aligns with much of the work we have undertaken,” said OIX Chief Identity Strategist Nick Mothershaw. “They are passionate about the development of standards, as well as raising the level of expertise in the biometric market, and we believe they will bring an invaluable perspective to the community.”
“Our mission is very much in line with the mission of the OIX community,” added TECH5 Co-founder and CEO Machiel van der Harst. “We believe that together we can make the future of identity management more inclusive. This future will be one in which universally trusted digital IDs will be owned by citizens and will be able to be used in every facet of their lives, online and offline, with or without a smartphone.”
TECH5 recently announced that it would be opening new research and development facilities in Portugal and India. The company is currently looking to expand after bringing in another $10 million in funding from investors earlier this year.
