OPPO K9 5G Smartphone Features In-display Sensor From Goodix

May 12, 2021

Electronics maker OPPO has continued with its trend of choosing to use biometric fingerprint technology provided by Goodix for its latest product launch.

OPPO K9 5G Smartphone Features In-display Sensor From Goodix

At an event in China last week, OPPO showed off a number of new offerings including a smart TV, a fitness band, and a pair of TWS headphones, in addition to the new OPPO K9 5G smartphone.

The K9 aims to help users sustain high performance with a unique 3D liquid-cooling system to help keep its Snapdragon 768G SoC from overheating. The smartphone comes running ColorOS 11.1, and an Android 11-based OS, and gives consumers the choice of either 128GB or 256GB of internal storage. It should be noted that both configurations also include 8GB of memory.

Located behind the K9’s 6.43″ FullHD+90Hz Samsung-manufactured AMOLED screen featuring a 180Hz touch sampling rate is a Goodix in-display fingerprint sensor. This inclusion marks the second time in less than two months that OPPO and Goodix have worked together to launch a smartphone with an in-display sensor, further cementing the latter company’s prominence in what is a growing trend in the smartphone market.

With a steady flood of rumours pointing to industry leader Apple going down a similar path with its Touch ID system for the upcoming iPhone 13, in-display fingerprint sensors are shaping up to become even more popular going forward.

The K9 also features four cameras including a 32MP selfie shooter and a 64MP primary camera, with an 8MP ultra-wide and 2MP macro lens rounding out the quartet. Finally the K9 comes with a large 4,300 mAh battery powered via a USB-C port.
