“OT’s role will be to provide the EMV hardware, operating system, and digital security technology for the device, with plans to introduce its PEARL embedded Secure Element to future generations of the device.”
Oberthur Technologies (OT) is going to provide embedded payment technology for a new wearable device from Australia-based startup Inamo.
Called CURL, Inamo’s device is designed to attach to watches or fitness bands, and to enable contactless payments through Visa payWave. It’s waterproof and durable, and Inamo says it can perform payment transactions without using any power.
OT’s role will be to provide the EMV hardware, operating system, and digital security technology for the device, with plans to introduce its PEARL embedded Secure Element to future generations of the device. PEARL has previously been selected as the NFC eSE solution for flagship Samsung smartphones, making it a high-profile eSE solution for a startup like Inamo.
The device launches in Australia today, where it’s available for $19.99 plus a monthly fee of $5.00 for account keeping, the companies say.
