Pakistan has introduced a new mobile application called “Pak ID” designed to streamline the visa-on-arrival process for international visitors. The application, developed by the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), enables travelers to complete visa applications entirely through their mobile devices, marking a significant advancement in the country’s digital identity infrastructure.
The Pak ID app features advanced technology including facial recognition, document scanning, and photo upload capabilities. These tools allow applicants to complete their entire visa application process remotely, eliminating the need to visit physical offices. The platform supports applications for both business and tourist visas, building upon NADRA’s existing digital identity verification systems that have been progressively expanded across Pakistan’s government services.
Available on both Android and iOS platforms, the application serves citizens from 120 eligible countries. Users can monitor their application status in real-time through mobile notifications. The platform also provides services for overseas Pakistanis seeking identity card applications, complementing NADRA’s recent updates to its overseas Pakistani identification services.
“The main goal is to resolve the issues faced by the public,” said Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, emphasizing the government’s focus on improving administrative services through digital solutions. The initiative supports Pakistan’s broader efforts to digitize government services and enhance security through biometric verification.
Beyond visa services, NADRA has expanded the app’s functionality to include applications for Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs) and Family Registration Certificates (FRCs). The development is part of NADRA’s comprehensive digital transformation strategy, which includes the planned replacement of its web portal with an enhanced mobile platform in 2025, demonstrating Pakistan’s commitment to modernizing its administrative services through digital technology.
The launch of Pak ID represents a significant milestone in Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to implement biometric verification systems across multiple sectors, including telecommunications, legal documentation, and social services. The digital transformation aims to improve efficiency, reduce fraud, and enhance the accessibility of government services for both citizens and international visitors.
