Pakistan’s National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) will discontinue its Pak ID website on January 17, 2025, replacing it with a new mobile application designed to provide comprehensive identification services to citizens. Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced this transition as part of broader efforts to enhance service delivery and prevent fraud. The change follows NADRA’s recent initiatives to modernize its digital services and strengthen security measures for identity documents.
The decision to shut down the website stems from challenges with fraudulent activities, including the operation of fake websites that were being used to illegally obtain identification documents. The existing platform also presented technical difficulties for users, particularly overseas Pakistanis who struggled with document uploads and fingerprint scanning procedures. These issues have been a significant concern for NADRA, which has been working to implement enhanced security features across its identification systems.
The new mobile application will facilitate access to various identification services, including national identity cards (CNIC), National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP), Pakistan Origin Card (POC), B Form, and Family Registration Certificates (FRC). Users will be able to complete all necessary procedures for obtaining identification documents through the mobile platform. The digital transformation supports NADRA’s recent implementation of biometric identification systems and enhanced security features for various identity documents.
As part of NADRA’s service expansion initiative, three new regional centers will be established in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gwadar, and Gilgit-Baltistan. These facilities are scheduled to begin operations by March 31, 2025, with the aim of improving communication between NADRA officials and citizens in remote areas. The expansion builds upon NADRA’s existing network of 24/7 service centers and its efforts to improve accessibility nationwide.
The authority is also working to achieve nationwide coverage at the tehsil level. Currently, 19 tehsils remain without NADRA offices, but these gaps are expected to be filled by March 31, 2025, when new offices become operational in these locations. The comprehensive approach to service delivery reflects NADRA’s commitment to making digital identity services accessible to all Pakistani citizens, regardless of their location.
