The solution will give users an easy way to share COVID-19 test results and their vaccination status without disclosing any other personal information. Participating healthcare providers will automatically send a digital record of the test or vaccine to the user’s ShoCard wallet. From there, the user can present a QR code on a mobile device to prove that they have been vaccinated and are free of COVID-19 when entering public venues like restaurants or arenas.
Ping Identity plans to make its immunity passport service available for free to help promote better public health outcomes during the pandemic, though existing Ping Identity customers will have access to some advanced use-cases. Meanwhile, ShoCard’s decentralized identity app is secured with face and fingerprint biometrics, and is available for iOS and Android devices.
“Achieving normalcy post-pandemic will demand a level of verifiable safety in the places where people come together most,” said Ping Identity Founder and CEO Andre Durand. “Using secure and private technology that’s easily accessible from a smartphone, Project COVID Freedom helps simplify the vaccination process so individuals, businesses and healthcare providers can increase in-person safety without compromising users’ digital identity.”
In addition to giving them an easy way to share, ShoCard’s app will help users manage their own medical records. For example, the app can send an alert to remind users to get their second vaccine dose, or can revoke immunity privileges if a vaccine proves to be ineffective. According to Ping, healthcare providers will not need to write any code or complete a complex integration process to offer support for the immunity program.
Project COVID Freedom will enter wide release following a short early access period. It arrives shortly after the debut of PingOne Verify, Ping Identity’s new selfie-based biometric onboarding solution. Ping Identity is one of the numerous identity providers that now offer immunity credentials, joining a list that already includes CLEAR, IDEMIA, and TECH5.
