Proximus Group has announced the merger of its subsidiaries BICS, Telesign, and Route Mobile into a unified entity called Proximus Global, marking a significant development in the telecommunications industry. The strategic integration strengthens the company’s position in global communications, particularly in Europe and North America, at a time when secure digital identity and authentication solutions are becoming increasingly critical for businesses.
The merger combines three distinct capabilities under one umbrella: BICS, a major supplier of global IoT airtime; Telesign, which specializes in digital identity solutions for user verification and fraud prevention; and Route Mobile, a Cloud Communications Company offering Communication Platform as a Service (CPaaS) solutions. Telesign has been particularly notable in the identity verification space, having pioneered phone-based authentication and verification services that have become industry standards.
Proximus Group’s relationship with these entities has evolved over time, beginning with the acquisition of Telesign for $230 million in 2017, followed by taking full ownership of BICS in 2021. The integration into Proximus Global combines the strengths of all three organizations, enabling expanded product offerings and enhanced global reach in an increasingly competitive digital communications market.
The unified entity will focus on delivering comprehensive communication solutions, incorporating CPaaS capabilities that enable omnichannel communication across SMS, WhatsApp, RCS, email, and voice platforms. The integration of Telesign’s digital identity solutions provides additional security measures, while maintaining compliance with data protection standards such as GDPR. The development is particularly significant as organizations worldwide face growing pressure to implement strong authentication measures while adhering to strict privacy regulations.
“Proximus Group’s majority stake in Route Mobile is a testament to the growing importance of CPaaS in the global communication landscape,” said Milind Pathak, Executive VP at Route Mobile. “This partnership provides us with access to Proximus Group’s and their affiliates Telesign and BICS’s extensive resources, expertise, and network. It has bolstered our ability to scale globally, particularly in Europe and North America, while also expanding our product portfolio and accelerating innovation.”
The merger positions Proximus Global to harness combined technological capabilities and market presence, particularly in the rapidly evolving CPaaS sector. The integration enables the company to offer enhanced communication solutions while maintaining focus on security, innovation, and global scalability. The consolidation comes at a time when regulatory bodies are increasingly emphasizing the importance of secure mobile communications and robust digital identity verification systems.
