Goodix and Samsung have introduced innovative fingerprint registration techniques to enhance user convenience and security on their latest devices.
Goodix, a biometric sensor manufacturer, has launched a “sliding enrollment” feature for in-display fingerprint sensors, starting with the Iqoo Neo 9s Pro Plus. This new method allows users to register their fingerprints by sliding their finger smoothly across the sensor, eliminating the need to repeatedly lift and tap.
This sliding motion, which feels similar to massaging the screen, simplifies the fingerprint registration process and provides a more user-friendly experience. Goodix’s ultrasonic under-display fingerprint sensor, first introduced in the vivo X100 Ultra, incorporates this new technology. The company is negotiating to implement this feature in more flagship phones later this year, although no official agreements have been confirmed.
Meanwhile, Samsung has made significant improvements with the Galaxy Z Fold 6, which was unveiled at the recent Galaxy Unpacked event.
The Galaxy Z Fold 6 now enables users to enroll fingerprints while the device is closed by pressing their finger on the side sensor. Previously, users had to unfold the device to register a fingerprint. This update, first reported by 9to5Google, streamlines the enrollment process. Samsung has also updated the enrollment progress animation to guide users to the side button, highlighting the sensor’s location with a green indicator and providing feedback through vibration.
The new enrollment method has been made available on the Galaxy Z Fold 5 through a software update, extending the convenience to users of the previous model. However, some users have reported a software bug during the initial fingerprint setup on the Galaxy Z Fold 6.
