Shortly After Launch, Samsung Enhances In-Display Fingerprint Scanning on Galaxy A70

Shortly After Launch, Samsung Enhances In-Display Fingerprint Scanning on Galaxy A70

Samsung is once again enhancing the biometric capabilities of one of its smartphones through a software update.

The update has been rolling out to Indian users of the Samsung Galaxy A70, one of Samsung’s first mid-range devices to benefit from the trend of in-display fingerprint scanning. The device only went on sale in India a few weeks ago, but is now eligible for a software update designed to deliver a few enhancements including better imaging and ‘accidental touch’ protection, in addition to upgraded fingerprint scanning.

It isn’t yet clear exactly how the biometric technology has been improved on the Galaxy A70, with Samsung’s software update changelog saying only, “The performance of Fingerprint recognition has been improved”.

It’s the second recent effort on Samsung’s part to improve fingerprint scanning after a product’s launch: At the end of March, the company also issued a software update for the Galaxy A50 aimed at fixing that device’s in-display fingerprint scanning system, which reportedly required multiple attempts from users for successful authentication.

This could be a sign that Samsung rushed in-display fingerprint scanning technology to these lower-tier devices in a bid to get ahead of the wave of enthusiasm for this new technology. In any case, many end users may have a ‘better late than never’ attitude about the enhancements.
