“There is a sense of growing anticipation around biometric payment cards, with Mastercard having led pioneering trials last year and Visa now conducting its own pilot projects in Europe and the US.”
SmartMetric has found another distributor for its biometric smart card solution: The company has announced that Hogier Gartner CIA will take on this responsibility in South America.
The partnership bodes well for the biometric card’s financial services applications. Hogier Gartner CIA is a manufacturer of credit cards that has built extensive relationships with banks in South America over the last 60 years; its Bogota-based production facility is accredited by Visa and Mastercard.
News of the partnership comes after SmartMetric’s recent announcement that New Jersey-based Protec Secure Card had become its national distributor in the US. There is a sense of growing anticipation around biometric payment cards, with Mastercard having led pioneering trials last year and Visa now conducting its own pilot projects in Europe and the US.
In its announcement of its latest distribution partnership, SmartMetric highlighted its R&D investment in its biometric card solution, which the company says is the product of “over a decade of research and development”, and is protected by five issued patents.
