SWORD has purchased more than 10,000 pairs of Vuzix Blade Smart Glasses for a total price of $7.1 million. The order is part of a formal reseller agreement between the two companies, through which SWORD will offer its Blade-backed SWORD Enterprise security solution to other third party customers.
The two companies first started working together back in May, when SWORD integrated the Vuzix Blade into its Enterprise security product. SWORD Enterprise is a wearable threat detection platform that boasts weapon detection and facial recognition capabilities courtesy of the Vuzix Blade. The system can help identify suspicious individuals, and is designed for security personnel patrolling large venues like banks, schools, airports, and arenas.
“The see-through smart glasses allow our customers to stay engaged with their environment, while also simultaneously receiving critical alerts related to safety threats from near or across the building,” said SWORD Founder and CEO Barry Oberholzer.
“The combination has the makings of a disruptive and game changing product offering for public safety and the security industry,” added Vuzix President and CEO Paul Travers.
Vuzix will begin shipping volume orders in the third quarter of 2020, and continue through the first half of 2021. SWORD plans to purchase additional units in early 2020 to carry out its own tests with its customers.
The Vuzix Blade is also powering the iFalcon Face Control that leverages facial recognition technology from Dubai-based software developer NNTC.
