Synaptics Enters Acquisition Dialogue

June 20, 2018

“Synaptics serves a number of clients and recently won acclaim for its fingerprint sensor technology after it became the first supplier to deliver an in-displayer fingerprint scanner in a commercial smartphone earlier this year.”

Synaptics Enters Acquisition Dialogue

Synaptics is in talks with Dialog Semiconductor about the latter’s potential acquisition of the former, the company has confirmed.

In a brief forward-looking statement, the San Jose-based device interface specialist noted that “[t]here is no assurance that a transaction will result from these discussions,” adding that any such transaction “will be subject to U.S. and certain foreign regulatory approvals and the approval of the Synaptics and Dialog boards and Synaptics stockholders.”

Dialog Semiconductor is a UK-based firm whose power management chips are used in Apple’s iPhone smartphones. Analysts believe that its effort to acquire Synaptics is a response to Apple’s recent reduction in orders from the company, with Dialog seeking to rebound by reducing its dependence on the American tech behemoth.

Synaptics serves a number of clients and recently won acclaim for its fingerprint sensor technology after it became the first supplier to deliver an in-displayer fingerprint scanner in a commercial smartphone earlier this year. Thus it could be a good investment for Dialog, given the latter’s new business strategy.

In any case, at the moment few details are known about what is entailed in the companies’ dialogue. “Synaptics does not intend to make any additional comments regarding the discussions, and any further statements will be made if and when appropriate,” the interface maker said in its statement.
