TCL Highlights In-display Biometrics and 5G in New Line of Smartphones

TCL Highlights In-display Biometrics and 5G in New TCL 10 Line of Smartphones

TCL Communication has unveiled its first TCL-branded line of smartphones. The affordable Android devices are being released as part of the TCL 10 Series, which includes the TCL 10 5G, the TCL 10 Pro, and the TCL 10L. All three phones will debut at a price point lower than $500.

“Expanding the TCL brand into the mobile space ensures that we offer a fully integrated ecosystem of smart products in virtually every aspect of your life,” said TCL Industrial Holdings CEO Kevin Wang. “This makes it possible to provide customers with a wide range of products capable of working seamlessly together, and do so more affordably than everyone else.”

All three phones are built with Qualcomm Snapdragon processors and feature a rear quad-camera setup in addition to TCL’s NXTVISION visual technology. The TCL 10 Pro also features an in-display fingerprint sensor for user authentication, which only underscores the growing popularity of in-display fingerprint technology. Goodix recently placed its sensor in new phones from Huawei and Redmi, and Samsung continued to support the technology in the Galaxy S20.

The TCL 10 5G, meanwhile, will similarly advance 5G technology, making it easier for consumers to take advantage of the rapidly expanding 5G infrastructure. Ericsson is currently working to bring new 5G networks in Trondheim and Hong Kong, which suggests that 5G development will continue even if COVID-19 does slow 5G adoption rates in the next few months.

The TCL 10 5G comes with a Snapdragon 7-series 5G SoC, and will be available for €399 (and £399) when it debuts in select regions later this year. The TCL 10 Pro and the TCL 10L, on the other hand, will launch in the US, Europe, the UK, and Australia in the second quarter of 2020. The former will be available for $449 (€449/£399/$899 AUD), while the latter will start at a highly affordable $249 (€249/£199/$499 AUD).
