Telegram has unveiled a comprehensive update featuring enhanced privacy controls, Chromecast integration, and new monetization capabilities, building upon its recently launched decentralized verification system. The messaging platform’s latest release introduces several key features aimed at improving user security and expanding functionality across its ecosystem of over 800 million monthly active users.
The contact confirmation system stands out as a notable addition, displaying detailed information when users receive messages from unknown senders. The feature shows the sender’s country based on their phone number, mutual group memberships, account creation date, and recent profile modifications. It also distinguishes between official, verified, and standard accounts, complementing Telegram’s existing security infrastructure that helps prevent fraudulent activities and unauthorized access.
The platform has implemented a new Stars system for Premium users, enabling them to set fees for incoming messages from non-contacts. The system reduces spam, helps manage inboxes, and creates earning opportunities for users. The feature extends to group chats, where administrators can implement similar controls, marking a significant shift in how messaging platforms handle user monetization and spam prevention.
Telegram has reduced authentication costs to $0.01 per message, representing an 80 percent decrease compared to traditional SMS verification services. The new pricing matches current market trends toward more affordable verification methods, as demonstrated by recent developments in SMS verification fraud prevention. The platform now includes automatic refunds for undelivered verification codes, with customizable delivery time limits.
For Android users, the update introduces Chromecast support, allowing content streaming to compatible large-screen devices. The functionality enables users to cast photos and videos directly from the Telegram app to television screens and other display devices, expanding the platform’s multimedia capabilities.
The platform’s monetization features have expanded, with Stars becoming more versatile. Users can now use Stars to purchase Premium subscriptions and withdraw funds through the Fragment service. The update also enables users to gift Premium subscriptions using Stars and showcase up to six gifts on their profile covers, creating a more engaging user experience.
Group administrators receive new tools to monitor and manage Star balances directly through group profiles, with the ability to withdraw accumulated Stars after a 21-day holding period via Fragment. The feature adds to Telegram’s growing suite of administrative tools designed to enhance group management and monetization options.
