“It’s the latest example of the growing prominence of eSIM technology, which allows devices’ cellular network subscriptions to be altered remotely and without the need for the removal of a physical SIM chip.”
Thailand just got its first eSIM smartwatch thanks in part to IDEMIA. The company has announced that its remote provisioning solution is being used in a new smartwatch from Thai mobile network operator TrueMove H.
In its statement, IDEMIA did not specify the particular smartwatch model being supported by its eSIM provisioning solution, but the company indicated that the wearable device is capable of making calls and sending text messages. TrueMove H sells three smartwatch devices: The Apple Watch Series 3, a device called the “True IoT Smart Watch”, and a “True Kidz Watch”.
It’s the latest example of the growing prominence of eSIM technology, which allows devices’ cellular network subscriptions to be altered remotely and without the need for the removal of a physical SIM chip. The news comes after IDEMIA’s announcement that it would provide its eSIM provisioning solution to Sprint in North America this past February.
Commenting on this latest collaboration, TrueMove H Director for Retail Business Tuantong Srivichian enthused, “Thanks to IDEMIA’s subscription management solution, we are the first mobile operator in Thailand to support IoT/M2M trends, which will enable exponential increase in connectivity and services in the near future.”
