Zwipe’s Pay ONE Platform will be featured in a biometric card trial with the OP Financial Group. OP is the largest financial services group in Finland, offering insurance, banking, and wealth management to a customer base of more than four million people.
The Pay ONE deployment is being realized through Zwipe’s partnership with TietoEVRY, the latter of which will be conducting the market trial in collaboration with OP. Zwipe and TietoEVRY first joined forces in October, when TietoEVRY revealed that Pay ONE would be the foundation for a biometric payment solution built for wearables and payment cards. TietoEVRY is a software developer that specializes in digital banking and card services for clients in the Nordic region.
The biometric cards will authenticate users with fingerprint recognition. The various parties are hoping that the cards will help meet the growing demand for contactless payment options during the COVID-19 pandemic. In that regard, OP will consider moving forward with a full commercial launch of the cards if the initial trial goes well.
The Pay ONE Platform features the TrustedBio fingerprint sensor from IDEX Biometrics. Zwipe recently placed a volume order for 300,000 sensors, and is now anticipating that biometric cards will reach the large-scale commercialization phase in 2021.
