Trust Stamp has entered into the age assurance market, announcing a new “Age Estimation” solution that can be operated through a standard smartphone camera.
The solution is, of course, based on face biometrics, prompting an end user to conduct a simple face scan using their mobile device. In a blog post announcing Trust Stamp Age Estimation, the company highlighted a few key application areas, including social media, online gaming, and e-commerce for age-restricted goods, such as alcohol.
Trust Stamp is placing a strong emphasis on data privacy with respect to its solution. The company noted that its age estimation technology does not require the end user to provide personal identification documents, and said that face images are automatically deleted after successful transactions.
The company has not disclosed metrics concerning the accuracy of its age estimation technology, however. Its blog post asserts that its “AI-driven solution estimates a user’s age with unparalleled accuracy”. That would imply that its accuracy surpasses that of solutions from competitors like Yoti, though the latter has released detailed data concerning its own product.
In any case, Trust Stamp’s launch of a new age estimation system offers further evidence of a growing market for this biometric sub-sector. Beyond Yoti, which has established a strong presence in this area, the biometrics vendors Paravision and Persona announced their joint entry into the age assurance market toward the end of last year.
For its part, Trust Stamp is also an established biometrics player, with its own technological bona fides. Earlier this year, the company received a notice of allowance for a patent covering “Systems and Methods for Liveness-Verified, Biometric Based Encryption.”
