The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has implemented significant changes to its online application process for the Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2025, introducing new digital features that support India’s broader push toward digital identity verification and authentication systems. The changes coincide with modernization efforts across various Indian government agencies, including the Election Commission of India.
A notable addition is the correction window, which will be available from February 19 to 25, 2025. During this period, candidates can modify specific details in their One-Time Registration (OTR) profile, including name changes, gender, minority status, and Class 10 board examination roll number. However, certain fundamental information remains unchangeable, such as the name as per Class 10 records, date of birth, parents’ names, registered mobile number, and email ID.
The Commission has established a new verification process for candidates who have lost access to their registered contact information, implementing security measures similar to those used in India’s expanding Aadhaar authentication system. Those who cannot access their registered mobile number or email ID can use a one-time password (OTP) sent to their accessible contact. Candidates who have lost access to both must submit a formal request to the Commission, accompanied by supporting documentation such as a matriculation certificate, Aadhaar card, passport, or driving license, along with an undertaking.
For candidates with benchmark disabilities (PwBD), the Commission now requires scribe details to be provided during the preliminary stage. While this requirement remains optional for the main examination, candidates will have an opportunity to update or provide scribe information following the preliminary results.
The application period for the 2025 examination runs from January 22 to February 11, 2025. The application process consists of two parts. Part I involves basic registration through the official website, where candidates must provide personal details, educational qualifications, and contact information. Upon completion, candidates receive a Registration ID (RID).
Part II of the registration process requires candidates to enter additional details, including photo identity information, attempt history, and graduation marks. Candidates must also select their preliminary examination center, upload required documents, and complete the payment process. The system confirms successful submission through notifications sent to the registered mobile number and email address, building upon India’s growing digital identity infrastructure that includes initiatives like the DigiLocker system.
