Barcotec GmbH has signed on a distribution partner for Vuzix in a deal that should extend the reach of the latter’s smart glasses.
Based in Austria, Barcotec offers corporate customers a range of what it calls ‘Auto-ID solutions’, including barcode and RFID readers, mobile devices management solutions, voice identification technologies, and more. It was founded in 1989, and now serves customers across 36 countries.
Vuzix, meanwhile, is known for its smart glasses products, which support sophisticated technologies including facial recognition, video streaming, and even speech-to-text language translation. The company’s innovative approach to wearable technology proved appealing to Barcotec’s leadership team, suggested Barcotec Managing Director Alexander Rainsberger.
“Vuzix is a leading global player in the world of wearables and is a perfect next step in the growing Wearables Business Unit of Barcotec,” he explained. “We look forward to expanding our distribution activities throughout Europe with Vuzix because it allows our customers and partners to adapt their applications even more diversely to current market requirements
Rainsberger added that customers can now order Vuzix products directly from Barcotec’s headquarters in Salzburg.
The new partnership speaks to Vuzix’s rising profile in the commercial market, with Forbes having recently named the company on its list of America’s top 100 small companies for 2022, in which Vuzix ranked 69th. Forbes’s ranking were based on metrics pertaining to positive sales growth and equity performance over the past year.
“Our success to date has been a team effort and I would like to thank all of our employees for their continued efforts as we address the emerging market for AR smart glasses with some of the world’s best products and technologies,” commented Vuzix CEO Paul Travers.
News of the Barcotec partnership arrives soon after Vuzix’s announcement in October that it had teamed up with Vivoka to enhance its platform’s speech recognition capabilities.
