Worldcoin has announced a partnership with Alchemy to provide the infrastructure for World Chain, its new blockchain for digital ID.
Alchemy, a web3 development platform, will integrate World ID into its toolset, making it accessible to developers worldwide. World Chain will be integrated with the Worldcoin protocol and work alongside Optimism, Coinbase, and the wider Ethereum ecosystem, forming part of a larger interconnected blockchain network known as the Superchain.
First announced in April, World Chain will be closely linked to Worldcoin’s digital ID system, which registers end users’ iris biometrics in order to verify that each user is a real human, and not a bot or duplicate account.
World Chain will give priority blockspace and a free gas allowance to verified World ID holders, ensuring the blockchain is optimized for real users instead of bots. Blockspace refers to the amount of data that can be included in a blockchain transaction block, and gas allowance is a measure of the computational effort required to execute transactions on the blockchain, often involving a fee paid to miners for processing those transactions.
Developers will be able to create applications for these verified users. Currently, there are over 5.8 million orb-verified World ID holders and more than 10 million World App downloads worldwide. The transition from OP Mainnet to World Chain will make it the new platform for World ID and the World App.
The partnership with Alchemy will provide developers with access to a comprehensive web3 platform that includes APIs, indexing solutions, and tools necessary for application development. This infrastructure will leveraged to enhance the security of self-custodial wallets.
The World Chain developer preview is expected to launch soon, allowing developers to begin building on the blockchain in preparation for its full launch later this year.
