Worldline Adds A3BC’s Finger Authentication Tech to Biometric Payments System

July 7, 2021

Worldine has integrated A3BC’s (Anything Anywhere Anytime Biometric Connection) authentication tech into its own Worldline Authentication platform. A3BC is a French FinTech that offers fingerprint and finger vein recognition, and stores its biometric data on a private server in a manner that is compliant with the latest GDPR data protection regulations.

Worldline Adds A3BC's Finger Authentication Tech to Biometric Payments System

Worldline Authentication, meanwhile, supports fingerprint and PIN-based verification. It can also use those biometric and knowledge-based authenticators to link a device to its proper owner, thereby delivering an additional, device-based authentication factor. As a result, the joint Worldline and A3BC solution will be able to authenticate users through possession and inherence, relying on smartphone ownership and finger biometrics, respectively.

The new solution seems to be designed primarily for the financial sector, insofar as it can be used to verify someone’s identity when completing a transaction. A3BC participated in Worldline’s third e-Payments Challenge in September, which tasked competitors to come up with innovative solutions to problems facing existing Worldline clients. OneVisage was the winner of an earlier Challenge, and its solution would eventually be integrated into a Worldline naked payments system that relies on facial recognition.

“Fraud is on the rise due to the pandemic,” said Worldline Global Product Manager of Authentication Services Claire Deprez-Pipon. “We are now able to add a new layer of security with no friction into Worldline Trusted Authentication and other solutions. It opens new doors to facilitate an even better customer experience and authentication from any device.”

In other news, Worldline recently acquired 80 percent of Axepta Italy, and has now entered into a commercial partnership with the country’s BNL banking group as part of the deal. In that regard, BNL will help Worldline distribute its various payment products to potential customers. Wordline has previously partnered with Gemalto to improve the utility of mobile wallets.
