World’s First Smartphone with In-Display Fingerprint Sensor to Launch This Week

The world’s first commercially available smartphone with an in-display fingerprint sensor will hit the market on January 24th.World's First Smartphone with In-Display Fingerprint Sensor to Launch This Week

The device comes from Vivo, which recently showed it off at the Consumer Electronics Show. Dubbed the Vivo X20 Plus, it’s a new version of the original Vivo X20 announced last September, with the biggest change being its pioneering fingerprint sensor technology. It’s the first device to feature Synaptics’ CLEAR ID 9500, an optical fingerprint sensor designed for integration under a device’s display; and with bigger brands like Apple and Samsung having failed in their own attempts to get this kind of technology into their mobile devices, it represents a big opportunity for Vivo to distinguish itself in terms of technological innovation.

Other features of the Vivo X20 Plus include a 2.2GHz octa-core processor, 4GB of RAM, a rear-facing dual camera system and 12MP front-facing camera, and a 6.43″ OLED display. It also will feature a 3800mAh battery and expandable storage via microSD card support, and will be available in ‘Black Gold’, ‘Champagne Gold’, ‘Matte Black’, and ‘Rose Gold’ color variations.

Vivo will host a launch event for the new device in Beijing, with the Vivo X20 Plus expected to go on sale in China at a price of around CNY 4,000, or roughly $625 USD.
