“It’s the second smartphone maker to take advantage of FPC’s new sensor model, which is designed for under-glass applications, with Huawei having led the charge late last year.”
Xiaomi is sticking with Fingerprint Cards for its smartphones’ biometric capabilities, with a new device, the Mi 6, featuring an FPC1268 fingerprint sensor.
It’s the second smartphone maker to take advantage of FPC’s new sensor model, which is designed for under-glass applications, with Huawei having led the charge late last year. Commenting in a statement, FPC SVP Ted Hansson said Xiaomi’s integration of the FPC1268 is “a result of our increased focus on under glass” deployments.
This certainly isn’t the first time Xiaomi has embraced FPC’s technology, of course, with the China-based OEM having integrated it FPC sensors into various devices over the past several months, its Mi Mix device being a recent example.
For FPC, the Mi 6 integration comes on the heels of its announcement this week of a deployment of its FPC1035 sensor with an unnamed Taiwan-based smartphone maker, and quickly after its announcement of a deployment with Micromax, its first India-based smartphone OEM client.
