Yubico is expanding the scope of its Works with YubiKey (WWYK) initiative. First launched in 2018, WWYK is an alliance program that lets consumers know which hardware and software products are compatible with Yubico’s various security solutions.
The latest updates will give developers two new ways to become members of the alliance. The Yubico-verified track is geared towards companies that are looking for a more formal business relationship, and to work with Yubico to promote their YubiKey integration.
The Self-verified track, on the other hand, is essentially a checklist that a company can fill out to ensure that their YubiKey integrations support all of the necessary features. Companies on the Self-verified track would be able to manage their own listing in the WWYK catalogue. The improved WWYK program will also introduce a public-facing channel that allows everyday YubiKey users to report unlisted products that offer YubiKey support.
The news comes shortly after Yubico released a new SDK for Android devices. The SDK will make it easier to develop apps that allow for YubiKey-based authentication. Yubico has since submitted its YubiKey 5 Series firmware for FIPS 140-2 certification. The company has repeatedly emphasized the need for multi-factor authentication as digital traffic has increased during the COVID-19 pandemic.
