Zwipe has teamed up with Brazil-based Thomas Greg & Sons to develop a biometric payment card solution aimed at the latter’s domestic market.
Based in Sao Bernando do Campo, Thomas Greg & Sons, or TGS, is active in a wide range of areas, including courier services, election solutions, surveillance, insurance, and card manufacturing. And the company claims a market presence not only in Brazil but also Colombia, Mexico, Peru, the US, Italy, India, the Philippines, and the UK.
The partnership will see the integration of Zwipe’s fingerprint recognition technology into TGS’s payment card platform, with the companies aiming for a commercial launch this year. In a statement announcing their partnership, TGS and Zwipe asserted that multiple banks in Brazil “have already engaged in serious dialogues to trial the solution.”
“We are excited to partner with Zwipe and leverage their industry leading expertise and intellectual property to be a first mover in Brasil with a product we believe has a strong value proposition to our customers, some of the region’s most established and fasted growing issuers,” commented TGS President Hernani Finazzi.
The news comes on the heels of Zwipe’s announcement of a partnership with TAG Systems, which will focus on the European biometric payment cards market. The emerging global market of biometric payment cards is a key focus area for Zwipe, as detailed in its recent year-end report for 2018.
