Precise Biometrics has inked a new licensing deal, this time with InvenSense, Inc., a MEMS sensor platform provider. The latter has licensed both of Precise Biometrics’ flagship algorithm software platforms, Precise BioMatch Mobile and Precise BioMatch Embedded.
The deal includes annual licensing fees for the use of Precise Biometrics’ algorithms and for support, as well as a per-unit fee. Revenues from the latter will depend on volumes, of course, so Precise Biometrics can’t make specific predictions; but the company expects such revenues to start coming in starting in Q4 of this year.
In a statement announcing the deal, InvenSense Marketing VP Eitan Medina suggested that the technology will be used in an “ultrasonic-based fingerprint solution”, calling Precise Biometrics “the perfect biometric authentication partner” to help bring the solution to market. “This cooperation coupled with our ability to sense fingerprints under glass, metal and plastic will enable us for both mobile and embedded markets,” he added.
A market report issued earlier this year highlighted InvenSense as a company expected to produce ultrasonic sensors highly resistant to spoofing, and it looks like Precise Biometrics is now in a position to help the company realize that prediction.
