Gemalto’s Device Management platform has been deployed by Airtel Lanka, Airtel’s Sri Lankan subsidiary.

Airtel Lanka Embraces Gemalto Solution for Remote Device ConfigurationThe solution allows Airtel Lanka to remotely configure mobile subscribers’ new devices without interrupting their cellular service. Gemalto says its Device Management platform is able to identify more than 175,000 devices from more than 2000 mobile device makers, helping to ensure that Airtel Lanka can always set up a new device for a customer.

In a statement announcing the deployment, Gemalto South Asia & Japan Mobile Services & IoT SVP Sashidhar Thothadri explained that in Sri Lanka, smartphone companies are particularly competitive in pushing new low-cost devices into the market, “increasing device diversity like never before.” That’s why Gemalto’s solution is so critical, and can help Airtel Lanka to “boost customer intimacy and revenues”.

The deployment helps Gemalto to further secure its position as a device management solutions provider as the eSIM concept continues to emerge around the world.
