“Apple Pay by now has a huge roster of backing financial institutions around the world, but this kind of promotional support is rare.”
The Bank of East Asia, Hong Kong’s biggest independent bank, is now supporting Apple Pay. And it’s going a step further, with special offers encouraging users to try out the service.
BEA Credit Card customers can get 5,000 bonus points just for adding their Visa or MasterCards to Apple Pay accounts until August 22nd, and the banks says its Mobile Banking customers will also get an HK$20 Circle K i-Coupon. Those who proceed to actually use the mPayment service can get even more perks, with 25 percent cash rebates available to the first 30,000 BEA customers to perform three or more transactions on Apple’s mobile wallet until October 31st, and credit card account users eligible for an HK$180 rebate. That should get some users tapping their fingers to set up accounts and pay for purchases, using the iPhones’ Touch ID biometric authentication system.
Apple Pay by now has a huge roster of backing financial institutions around the world, but this kind of promotional support is rare. With Apple Pay having recently become the first of the major mPayment platforms to debut in the region, the promotional support should help it to secure a foothold against rivals before they arrive.
