Apple Pay has now launched in France, making that country the eighth in the world to support the mobile payment platform.
It arrives with the support of MasterCard and Visa, as well as card issuers Banque Populaire, Caisse d’Epargne, Carrefour Banque, and Ticket Restaurant. Apple says further support from Boon and Orange is also in the pipeline. As for merchants, MacRumors reports that Apple Pay launches with the support of “a wide range of retailers” in the country, including Le Bon Marché, Dior, and Sephora.
Just a couple of months ago, Apple Pay executive Jennifer Bailey was asserting that her company was working hard to expand the service in Asia and Europe. Together with its launch in Switzerland a couple of weeks ago, the service’s French debut marks a cheese-heavy trip through the latter continent. As for the APAC front, it appears very likely that Hong Kong will be the next major market in which the service will make its debut.
Meanwhile, the other major mPayment platforms, Samsung Pay and Android Pay, continue to extend their reach as well, with recent launches in Brazil and Australia, respectively.
