Etsy has enabled in-app payments via Android Pay.
The support means that users of the vintage goods and crafts-focused marketplace are now able to place orders using Google’s digital payment platform. The simplicity of that – Android Pay users can authorize transactions using a PIN or fingerprint, rather than filling out all their payment details – could in turn be good for business for both Etsy and Android Pay.
Announcing the support on a blog post, Etsy Payments & Checkout Director of Product Management Stephanie Grodin said the company is “always looking at ways to make the checkout experience as seamless as possible, especially for shoppers on mobile devices.”
While Android Pay and competitors like Apple Pay and Samsung Pay all retain the strong focus on in-store shopping that they had when they launched, web- and app-based functionality has also proven important to all of them, presenting further opportunities to get users acquainted with the platforms.
