A major anti-theft app for Android devices has now been upgraded to offer biometric security.
Called Cerberus, the app offers a number of features aimed at preventing and otherwise hindering mobile device theft. It enables users to remotely lock and wipe data, for example, or to attempt to take pictures of a thief who has stolen their device.
With such a strong security focus, one would imagine that biometric security would be another natural feature, but given that fingerprint scanning support didn’t arrive on Android until the launch of Marshmallow, the delay is perhaps understandable. Better late than never – with version 3.4, the app now enables biometric authentication via fingerprint scan.
Cerberus is available for free on the Play Store or its website, but requires a small annual fee after a seven-day trial period.
