Apple Accidentally Reveals Two Biometric iPads

October 15, 2014

The next Apple keynote is slated for tomorrow, at which it has been rumored that the next generation iPads will be revealed, but it looks like the big announcement has been spoiled by none other than the company itself. Today, the user guide for iOS 8 on Apple’s official website had its screen shots updated to show the iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 3, complete with instructive labels.

iPad IDs

Both new iPads feature the Touch ID fingerprint sensor in the home button. The inclusion of a biometric sensor on these iPads has been the subject of rumors reaching back to the spring, so it should come as no surprise that these new tablets can be locked and unlocked with fingerprints, especially considering that iOS 8 allows developers to use Touch ID in their applications.

The images have been taken off of the user guide, but still remain on the Apple server.

Last year at Apple’s October event, the company announced the first iPad Air and the iPad Mini with Retina Display. Neither of last year’s tablets had fingerprint sensors, a move that, given the poor initial reception Touch ID received, seemed to show caution on Apple’s part. Now with embedded biometric sensors on three iPhones and two iPads it’s clear that the company has committed fully to fingerprint security.
