A new survey indicates that relatively few iPhone 6 owners actually use Apple Pay. Conducted by market analytics company InfoScout along with Pymnts.com, the survey asked 1498 iPhone 6 users about their habits.
In March, just over 15 percent of respondents said they had used Apple Pay; in June, that number declined to just over 13 percent. Moreover, more than a third (34 percent) of respondents said they didn’t know how to use the mPayments service. Citing the results in a Telegraph article, Andrew Trotman asserts that only three percent of respondents regularly use the service.
It’s a dismal report for the platform, which recently launched in the UK amid much fanfare. But Apple remains more or less inscrutable on the issue, having not yet disclosed exact numbers on usage, and leaving market watchers to speculate. Some have enthused that the mPayment system is catalyzing growth in the nascent field, while more recently we’ve seen reports of steady, modest expansion. No one outside of Apple seems to know for sure how the platform is succeeding (or not), but as other mPayment platforms loom on the horizon, many seem to be buying into the idea that mPayments are going to be an increasingly part of the payments landscape going forward.
