Hyundai Mobis, the automotive parts supplier for Kia, Genesis Motors, and, of course, Hyundai, is planning to show off some cutting-edge technologies at January’s Consumer Electronics Show.
While an Eco-friendly Experience Zone will showcase environmentally conscious solutions like a motorized damper system that can convert kinetic energy from shock absorbers into electric power, an Infotainment Experience Zone will put the spotlight on new technologies that could radically change the driving experience. Designed for autonomous vehicles, those include things like a pop-up steering wheel that only appears when a driver needs to take over an autonomous driving system; front seats that can rotate around during autonomous driving; and even a hologram display.
The company says it will also showcase “biometric identification and vitals measurement,” according to a statement, though Hyundai Mobis hasn’t yet offered further details on what that will entail. Nevertheless, it points to the company’s role in a growing trend, with a recent Goode Intelligence report predicting the automotive biometrics market to reach a value of almost $1 billion by 2023. Biometric technology offers a number of potential applications in the car, from using a registered fingerprint to start the ignition to monitoring face biometrics for signs of exhaustion, so it will be interesting to see what Hyundai Mobis has come up with at CES.
The event will run from January 9th to 12th in Las Vegas, and Hyundai Mobis says it will showcase its new technologies from booth 3931 in the Las Vegas Convention and World Trade Center’s North Hall.
