“The move appears to reflect Discover’s growing embrace of mobile payment options, with the organization having finally offered support for Samsung Pay this past summer…”
Discover credit card users can get cash back on Apple Pay purchases, with the financial services organization’s Cashback Bonus feature now integrated into Apple Pay’s mobile payment platform.
It’s a fairly simple process. A cardholder needs only to make an Apple Pay purchase of a dollar in value or more (but not more than the available Cashback Bonus), and then tap the “Tap for Details” under the Cashback Bonus message in the Apple wallet app. From there, the user has the option to redeem the Cashback Bonus as a credit on their next Discover statement.
The move appears to reflect Discover’s growing embrace of mobile payment options, with the organization having finally offered support for Samsung Pay this past summer after a very long delay from its initial promise of support. In a statement announcing the Cashback Bonus option for Apple Pay users, Discover e-Business VP Szabolcs Paldy explained that the customer experience “hinges on embracing mobile-first technologies like Apple Pay, and this new ability will make Cashback Bonus redemption even easier and more convenient for our cardmembers.”
The new feature is available to users of the iPhone 6 or later devices, and is functional with version 8.9.0 of the Discover Mobile app or above. And, of course, users need a Discover card loaded into Apple Pay.
