Precise Biometrics has inked a new licensing agreement. ELAN Microelectronics Corporation, a Taiwan-based sensor maker, has signed up to use Precise Biometrics technology in its fingerprint sensors.
ELAN is looking to take advantage of Precise Biometrics’ Precise BioMatch Mobile system. The agreement features a fixed fee for licensing rights, with further royalties depending on the volume of ELAN-made sensors using Precise Biometrics algorithms; as such, revenues can’t yet be predicted, but will start in the third quarter of this year.
In a statement, Precise Biometrics CEO Håkan Persson said he and his colleagues “welcome ELAN as a partner and appreciate the trust they put in us by selecting our products,” adding that the agreement “further strengthens our position as the leading supplier of software for fingerprint authentication for mobile devices.”
The company has indeed been doing well for itself in that area, having secured some major integrations via its sensor-maker partner Fingerprint Cards (FPC). The company has recently seen its technology used in smartphones from big names such as Huawei and Meizu, and its algorithms have also helped to power the “lightning quick” sensor on the new flagship OnePlus 2 mobile device.
