FIDO Launches Japan Working Group

December 8, 2016

“DoCoMo itself is part of the working group, of course; and it’s joined by other big names like Fujitsu, Lenovo, Nok Nok Labs, NXP Semiconductors, Yahoo Japan, and The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi, among others.”

The FIDO Alliance has launched a new working group focused on expanding the consortium’s presence in Japan.

FIDO Launches Japan Working GroupAptly called the FIDO Japan Working Group, the commission will be helmed by NTT DoCoMo’s Senior Director of Product Innovation, Koichi Moriyama. Given DoCoMo’s embrace of FIDO standards and sophisticated authentication technologies – it was the first MNO in the world to launch an iris-scanning smartphone – Moriyama’s appointment may come as little surprise to industry observers.

DoCoMo itself is part of the working group, of course; and it’s joined by other big names like Fujitsu, Lenovo, Nok Nok Labs, NXP Semiconductors, Yahoo Japan, and The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi, among others. The organizations will work to translate FIDO materials and propagate them through media and business channels, and encourage cross-industry information-sharing and collaboration on authentication and related efforts.

FIDO last demonstrated a strong regional focus when it selected Korea for its first interoperability test outside the US earlier this year. That tied in with strong interest in FIDO standards from government and business sectors in the country, and FIDO says it’s seeing growing interest from Japan-based organizations as it convenes its new working group.
